Cafe Attendant

Job Title: Cafe Attendant
Job Type: Full-time/Seasonal (April 1 – Oct 31st) with the option of some part time hours beyond those dates) 
Job Location: Bears Den Café in the Buttonwood Park Zoo 

Job Summary: 
We are looking for a Café Assistant to oversee the day-to-day operations of our Bears Den Cafe. The successful candidate will be responsible for maintaining quality customer service, and kitchen ServSafe standards.

Key Responsibilities: 

  • Ensure that the cafe is operating efficiently and effectively, and that customer service standards are being met. 
  • Manage inventory of supplies, and reporting to DOGS any orders that need placing, ensuring that the cafe is adequately stocked. 
  • Monitor and maintain the cleanliness and organization of the café. 
  • Ensure that food and drink preparation and presentation are up to organization standards. 
  • Resolve customer complaints and concerns in a timely and professional manner. 
  • Manage cash handling, including opening and closing procedures, and ensure that all financial transactions are accurately recorded and reported. 
  • Maintain knowledge of industry trends and recommend changes to improve the cafe’s performance. 

Requirements: 

  • High school diploma or equivalent, some college coursework preferred. 
  •  Knowledge of food preparation and presentation, as well as industry health and safety regulations. 
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Excellent customer service skills, with a focus on providing a positive customer experience. 
  • Ability to work weekends.  
  • Proficient in Square POS system strongly preferred.  
  • Ability to multitask and prioritize tasks in a fast-paced environment. 
  • Food Safety Certifications preferred.

Work Environment: 

The work environment characteristics described here are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this job. While performing the duties of this job, the employee regularly works in a hot and noisy environment with exposure to potentially hazardous equipment, chemicals, and hot surfaces. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate to high.

Guest Services

Job Title: Guest Services Associate
Job Type: Part Time 
Job Location: Buttonwood Park Zoo 

Job Summary: 
The North Woods Gift Store is at the Zoo’s entrance and is often a guest’s first interaction with the Zoo and Society staff. Guest Services staff members are responsible for providing excellent customer service in the Gift Store and at the admissions desk. All staff will be cross trained to work in Gift Store, Cafe, at the admissions desk, and as ride operators (if applicable).

Key Responsibilities: 

  • Sell gift store merchandise, annual memberships, and ride tickets
  • Transfer calls to the correct extension and radio staff regarding deliveries
  • Answer all customer questions in a friendly manner
  • Check in guests, groups, and field trips
  • Update daily keeper chat schedule
  • Inform our guests of our donation programs
  • Operate rides (if applicable)
  • Communicate new and exciting Zoo happenings to patrons
  • Close out the register and create daily deposit
  • Replenish store, cash handling, and merchandising
  • Assist when needed in Birthday party set up, during and break down
  • Train in café to ensure proper safety protocols

Requirements: 

  • Neat and professional appearance
  • Excellent customer service
  • BPZOO shirt or sweatshirt must always be worn
  • Ability to lift 30 pounds
  • Ability to stand on your feet for an entire shift

The Guest Services Associate position is a part-time, at-will position of the Buttonwood Park Zoological Society with compensation commensurate with experience and qualifications.
